Motorcycle Key Replacement

All-keys-lost is more common with motorcycles than cars. Bikes often have just one key, no spare in the kitchen drawer. When that key disappears, you're starting from zero.

For basic metal keys, we decode your ignition lock. The ignition cylinder contains wafers at specific heights - we read these heights and cut a new key to match. This takes slightly longer than copying an existing key but produces the same result. Most bikes with simple keys can be back in operation within an hour.

For transponder keys, all-keys-lost is more complex. We need to access the bike's security system and either add a new key to the existing programmed list or reset the system entirely. This requires manufacturer-specific equipment and often VIN verification to ensure we're not helping steal the bike. Expect higher cost and longer time than simple key replacement.

Some high-security motorcycles - particularly European brands - require returning to the dealer for all-keys-lost situations. Their security systems are designed to prevent exactly what we do for less-secured bikes. We'll tell you upfront if your motorcycle falls into this category.

Ownership verification is essential for all-keys-lost work. We need to see title, registration, or other documentation proving you own the bike. This protects both you (we won't make keys for someone trying to steal your motorcycle) and us (we need to verify authorization).

Used bike purchases often come with key issues. The seller provides one key and vaguely promises the spare is somewhere. It never appears. When you call, we need year, make, model, and your location. If you know the key type (basic, transponder, smart fob), that helps us prepare the right equipment. We'll quote pricing over the phone - motorcycle keys typically run $85-250 depending on type and brand.

For transponder and smart fob systems, have your title or registration ready. We verify ownership before programming any security-enabled keys. This is standard practice and protects everyone involved.

Most motorcycle key services take 30-60 minutes on-site. Basic keys are faster, transponder programming takes longer. We test thoroughly before leaving - you'll start your bike multiple times with us present to ensure everything works.

We also make spare keys on request. If you're down to one key and want insurance against future problems, bringing us your working key and your bike takes about 20 minutes. Much better than the all-keys-lost service call at 11pm on a Hill Country backroad.
