Medeco remains the most recognized high-security brand in America. Their locks feature the rotating pin system, UL-listed cylinders, and a restricted keyway that prevents unauthorized duplication. Medeco keys can only be copied at authorized dealers with proper ID verification. For Austin homeowners wanting proven, widely-serviced high security, Medeco is often the right choice.

Mul-T-Lock offers the telescoping pin system that many security professionals consider the gold standard. Their Interactive+ line adds a moveable element in the key that must engage correctly for the lock to operate. Mul-T-Lock also manufactures complete handlesets and deadbolts rather than just cylinders, providing a more integrated aesthetic.

Abloy, a Finnish manufacturer, uses a completely different approach - rotating discs instead of pins. Their Protec2 line is virtually pick-proof because traditional picking techniques simply don't apply. Abloy is less common in residential applications but offers exceptional security for those wanting the absolute best.

For Austin homes, we typically recommend Medeco M3 or Mul-T-Lock Interactive+ for residential installations. Both provide excellent security, key control, and are backed by manufacturers with long track records. High-security locks provide something standard locks cannot: key control. Your standard Kwikset or Schlage key can be copied at any hardware store, Home Depot, or Walmart kiosk.
